From Barter to Digital Trading

On August 15, 1971, President Nixon went on live TV and dropped a bombshell. His message was basically: "Yeah, so we're not converting USD to gold anymore."
But that single moment completely blew up the global financial system (known as the Bretton Woods system) that had ruled the world since WWII.
Before this:
- 🪙 The Dollar was King: Pegged to gold at exactly $35 per ounce.
- 🌐 The World was Locked: Every other major currency was pegged to the dollar.
- 📉 Zero Drama: Exchange rates barely moved. It was stable, but rigid.
After Nixon's announcement, the old world vanished overnight:
- 🌊 The Float began: Currencies started floating freely, priced purely by supply and demand.
- 💸 Birth of Forex: The modern foreign exchange market was officially born.
We went from shouting over rotary phones in the 70s, to electronic banking networks in the 80s/90s, to what we have today. You can trading global currencies from your phone at 2 AM in your pajamas. 📱🛌
All of this traces back to one 10-minute speech over 50 years ago.
