I just made an overseas payment, and the whole experience felt... surreal.

A little while ago, I needed to pay a developer in Vietnam a few hundred dollars for a small project. I was mentally preparing myself for PayPal's high fees or the hassle of filling out a complicated wire transfer form.

But then he just asked, "Can you send it in USDC?"

I paused. Although I follow the tech world, this was the first time I'd encountered it in a real-world work scenario. I decided to give it a try. It took me five minutes to buy some USDC on an app and send it to the address he provided.

The next second, he replied, "Got it."

There was no waiting, no intermediary banks, and the fee was negligible. For a moment, it felt surreal, like the first time I used email instead of sending a letter. We talk about disruption all the time, but true disruption often happens quietly like this.

Out of curiosity, I did some research later and realized this isn't just for tech geeks anymore. I saw platforms like BlockATM that have even built a simple, PayPal-like interface on top of this, allowing anyone, regardless of technical skill, to generate their own payment link.

It feels like we're living at a time when the "rails" of finance are switching. The old tracks are expensive, slow, and full of restrictions; the new ones are open, efficient, and seamless.

【Let's Discuss】

Just curious, has anyone else had a similar experience in work or life? How far away do you think this type of payment is from mainstream adoption?
