Why is it important to start with a Demo Account?

A demo account is often underestimated by many traders. They believe that using a demo account is a waste of time because, even though you're facing the real market, the funds used are not real money, so there's no psychological pressure to strengthen one's mindset.

On the other hand, trading directly with a real account is considered a better way to learn. Through a real account, traders gain comprehensive experience both technically and psychologically. Therefore, demo accounts are often overlooked.

However, let's look at it from a different perspective.

A demo account uses virtual funds as the balance or capital. When we make profits, those profits are also in the form of virtual funds and not real money. Similarly, when our trades incur losses, the same thing happens. Those losses only reduce the virtual funds, not the real money we possess.

This reason alone is enough to demonstrate the importance of trading with a demo account, especially if you're a beginner entering the forex trading business. This way, you don't have to waste your money just to gain experience interacting and experiencing the dynamics of the real market.

But besides that, there are several other reasons to show the importance of trading with a demo account.

#1. Testing Trading Methods

A demo account is the right place to test the methods we intend to use. If it turns out that the method we're testing has a low probability, we don't have to lose our money in vain.

However, before testing on a demo account, it's essential to first perform backtesting. This will help us determine whether the method performed well in the past or not. If it didn't, there's no need to bother testing it on a demo account.

On the contrary, if the method shows good performance in backtesting, it's necessary to prove whether that performance will be the same in current market conditions. And the means used to prove it is a demo account.

#2. Learning Discipline

Trading on a demo account can also serve as a platform to develop good habits. For example, learning to follow a trading plan without intervening in open positions, learning not to be psychologically influenced when facing market dynamics, and so on.

Although there isn't real psychological pressure when trading on a demo account, we can still learn discipline by repeatedly doing something until it becomes a habit. Thus, when transitioning to a real account, those good habits will come naturally without significant difficulties.

#3. Evaluation and Improvement

Furthermore, a demo account is a place where we can make mistakes multiple times. Regardless of how much our balance decreases, we won't suffer any financial loss. Therefore, a demo account is a suitable place to evaluate the methods we intend to use, our trading approach, and other important factors.

When we identify what went wrong, we can immediately make improvements and test them again as many times as we want. And if we fail again, we can reassess, find the issues, and once again make improvements. We can do this continuously without losing anything until we achieve satisfactory results.

Those are the reasons why trading on a demo account is important, especially if you're a beginner. It's better to learn first through a demo account than to waste your money by trading with a real account.
